Natural Food Colouring

Bright, beautiful, colourful and so incredibly tasty — you have to try making natural food colouring at home. It’s a lot easier than you’d think, totally fun to create and makes you feel really good knowing you’re putting natural ingredients into your body.

So, what’s the secret ingredient you ask? Well, it’s food — of course.

I recently tried three different options for food colouring, and they all worked out beautifully. The colours were brilliant, the texture was great and the taste was a home run, too.

Did I sell you on it? I hope so. You have to give it a try.

I made a very simple icing with plant-based milk and organic icing sugar, then split the icing into three bowls and added the colouring, which I made separately. It was really simple, and easy to do.

I am going to continue trying new colours, and I’ll keep you posted as I do.

Here is the recipe below:

Icing

  • 1/2 cup icing sugar (I used organic)

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

  • 1-2tbsp almond milk

Pink Icing

  • Muddle raspberries in a dish, strain juice

  • Mix with 1/2 cup icing sugar

Blue Icing

Green Icing (makes more of a mossy green)

  • Mix 1/2 cup icing sugar with 1 TBSP almond milk

  • Sprinkle in green matcha tea

Would you try this at home? I’d love to know. Tell me in the comments below.
