DIY Kids Party

Our little peach pie, Coco, just turned TWO. And I must admit, leading up to her party, I was exhausted. We had a huge celebration for Chet two weeks earlier, we had just returned from travelling and I was fighting a bug. Nevertheless, the show must go on!

I wanted to do something special for her, but I wanted to keep it budget-friendly (as I always do) and simple while still bringing a bang, and making her feel like a little princess. So, here’s what I did!

Fun, simple + budget-friendly ideas for your next D.I.Y. kid’s party at home:

  1. Balloons - I repurposed a balloon arch that I had already done for Chet’s birthday, by taking off all the old balloons (except for the white ones) and then adding new pink ones, just for Coco. In case you were wondering, my balloon arch lasted TWO WEEKS so you definitely can re-use it and enjoy it while it lasts. All you need is to buy the balloons, and get a ballon pump.

  2. Dress - Coco’s dress was the best score, and I wish I could take credit for it but it was all my Mother In Law. She found it at Once Upon A Child and paid a fraction of the price you would pay at a retail store. The dress was incredible, and defiantly made her feel like the birthday girl. Before you pay tons of money for a one-time use, check the second-hand stores!

  3. Cards - the best card was given to Coco from her cousin, Mara, and I must say that I LOVED IT. We spend so much money on cards every year and they always end up in the garbage. Mara made a card for Coco out of an old gift bag, and it was cute as can be!

  4. Gift Bags - all the gift bags were reused. We have a running joke in our family that we just pass around the gift bags from house to house, and why wouldn’t we! It’s a great way to save money. The trick is to have a good place to store them away, and Ikea makes the best containers.

  5. Cake - you don’t have to spend a ton of money on a cake to make it feel extra special. I mean, I do love a handmade cake by a cake artist but you don’t have to spend the extra bucks to get the big bang. The trick is to invest in a beautiful cake pedestal and find a fun cake topper - then you can just pick-up a cake from the grocery store.
