Party Decor

I love parties and party planning SO MUCH that it’s fair to say… I’m a PARTY GIRL. Over the years, I’ve collected all sorts of fun and easy DIY ideas for planning a party at home — and so, I thought I would share a few of them right here.

But before I start, make sure you download my DIY Party Checklist.

Create a party at home with these fun and easy DIY ideas:

  1. Flowers - in my opinion, every party should have flowers and you can do this in an easy, DIY and cost-friendly way. I went to all the groceries stores in my area and discovered the Metro has the best pick. I then pre-order flowers and foliage ahead of time, and then bring it home to arrange them myself. You can buy great, cost effective vases from the Dollar Store and then add a ribbon to the vase to make it fancy.

  2. Serveware - the best thing you can ever do is invest in some key pieces and then store them away when you are not using them. The best place is Homesense, and the Dollar Store to keep it cost-friendly, and you want to keep all your staple pieces neutral (i.e. white, silver, gold, wood) that way they go with everything and you can use them over again. My key pieces are wood boards, pedestals and a big water jug.

  3. Tablescaping - the key ingredients for making a beautiful tablsecape are plates, cups, napkins, silverware (if you need it), a runner, centrepiece and confetti. I usually go to Party City to find one of a kind pieces (like a really cool plate, napkins, or centrepiece) and then build everything around that standout piece. A lot of times I will go the Dollar Store for the filler pieces.

  4. Balloons - if you are having a party, you need to consider balloons. The trick here, especially if you want to save money, is to buy a balloon air pump and get helpers. You can then buy balloons from the dollar store and use tape or ribbon to stick them to things. I just made my very first balloon arch and it was way easier than I thought it would be (more on that later).

  5. Backdrop - I invested in a backdrop a long time ago, and have used it a million times so the investment has been totally worth it. It folds up nice and neat, making it easy for storage. I bought a simple white tulle curtain from Ikea and use it together all the time. Then, it creates the perfect setting for adding whatever you want (balloons, signs, decor).

  6. Spreads - the trick to creating magical spreads is layering, height and letting the food do the talking. Start by arranging your serveware, and then add the accessories like napkins, plates, name cars, straws, forks & knives and even flowers. The trick is to not over do it, and make it inviting.

  7. Signage - adding signs to your party is a great way to take it the next level. A few that you can try are chalkboard sandwich signs, letter boards, light-up cinema signs, name cards and food/drink cards. If you invest in reusable ones, you can use them over and over again.
