Chocolate Bark

This is one of my favourite treats to make at home with my kids and family. Try making this fun and easy recipe for chocolate bark, a delicious treat for the whole family.

Chocolate bark makes the perfect after school snack, it’s easy to make and you can make it as healthy or unhealthy (hehe) as you want. It’s all about the toppings!

I love making chocolate bark with my kids, because it’s a fun activity to do together — and then we all sit around the table and enjoy it. It’s fun to see them decorate the chocolate bark creatively, and then enjoy what they’ve made.

MAKING CHOCOLATE

In this recipe, you won’t need to make chocolate from scratch. Rather, you will be taking a pre-existing chocolate bar and melting it down to a very thin, bark-like layer (hence the name).

If you want something sweet and light, you can use milk chocolate — and if you want something a little richer, go for the dark chocolate.

Did you know? Dark chocolate is high in fibre and iron! Therefore, I like to think of it as a heavenly delicious health food.

TOPPINGS

The fun part about bark is that you can put any topping on you would like. This makes it just as fun to make as it is to eat. Try candy cane, marshmallows, nuts, roasted nuts, dried fruit, coconut flakes, seeds, more chocolate, pretzels, chips or Reese’s Pieces.

INGREDIENTS

— 1 300 gram bar of Lindt Swiss Classic dark chocolate or milk chocolate — you can use other brands, just make sure it is pure chocolate

— 1 cup loosely chopped Reese’s Pieces

— 2 cups broken pretzels

*but you can do any topping you like

RECIPE

  1. melt chocolate in double boiler or microwave — this should only take a few minutes and will be a creamy consistency

  2. poor melted chocolate on pan lined (12” x 17”) with parchment paper — use a spatula to spread out evenly towards pan sides

  3. sprinkle on Reese’s Pieces and pretzels

  4. put in freezer for 1 hour, or fridge until sets

  5. break (or smash) into pieces and enjoy!

The best part of this, next to decorating, is the breaking part. Your family will love breaking it up together, and then taking the smaller pieces.

Let me know if you try our homemade chocolate bark, the perfect treat for your family and kids.

Would you take a bit out of the chocolate bark?
