Apple Picking

There are so many fun family activities to do in the Fall — but one of our favourites is apple picking. Here’s why we love apple picking at our local family farm, and what you can expect from your visit with your family.

We recently visited Chudleigh’s Farm in Milton, Ontario — and highly recommend it. The farm is stunning. It is nestled in the country-side and surrounded by a beautiful and colourful apple orchard.

At the farm, you can enjoy a petting zoo, a rather large man-made play structure for kids, haystacks for climbing, a nature walk, tractors, musical performances and lots of food.

They have a hot grill serving BBQ favourites, a bar, bakery with delicious apple treats, a corn roast and apple cidery.

They make apple treats for you to take home, like apple pies, crumbles and blossoms. We have tried them all, and they taste like heaven. I would recommend bringing them home to serve them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Yum.

But, the apple picking at the farm is our favourite.

They have a wagon that takes you through the orchard, and you can hop on and off at each stop to pick a new and different apple variety. When you get off at the stop, you and your family can walk through the orchard and pick the apples that look the best to you.

They have two different bag sizes to fill, in case you want either large or small, and nobody will get mad at you if you sample one as you are picking. I can confidently say there is nothing better than eating an apple straight from the tree when you are apple picking.

The best part is, you get to take your apples home with you — and make delicious apple treats with them. You can also just savour them and eat them off the core, as a delicious afternoon treat.

For our family, making this excursion to the farm together was a fun family activity to do together. It’s the type of activity that creates memories and rituals with your family, and something that bonds you forever. Not to mention, being out in the orchard with the sun shining down and fresh air all around always feels amazing.

We are going to make healthy snacks with our apples. Visit back, and stay tuned for the next on what we make — you’ll find it here with my other delicious and healthy treats for your family.

We love creating healthy homemade treats and supporting local.

We definitely recommend visiting your local family farm this weekend to go apple picking, and let me know how it goes.
