Art Gallery

They said, don’t take your children to an art gallery. They’re too young. They won’t get it. They’ll misbehave, run around and disturb all the other guests.

But I did it anyway.

Because I believe that children are never too young to learn about creativity.

They’re like little sponges, and whatever they’re surrounded with - even if they’re too young to totally understand it - is what they’ll absorb.

Don’t get me wrong, we were a little loud at times. Chet did run through the art gallery, and I did run after him. But the people there were amazing, and I think they liked seeing a little person appreciating the art.

Here's what we did to make the most of our visit:

  1. Learned about the artists - we took a minute at the beginning to read the artist’s bio, look at their pictures and try to understand their inspiration. In doing this, it helped create a connection with the paintings

  2. Talked about the different styles of art - we looked at each piece and talked about what they were, the colours used, the design and composition of the piece, and what we liked about it. This helped us to learn about art and ask questions about the style

  3. Decided which piece we like best, and why - after looking at all the pieces, we each picked one that we liked the best and shared what the painting was about and why we liked it. This helped us engage with the painting, and helped us try to understand the meaning behind it.

Chet’s favourite piece was a dark blue abstract. He said it reminded him of the sky and universe, and he wanted to go on a rocket ship through it. Oh, the imagination!
