Chocolate Chunk Cookies

When I tell you these are the best chocolate chunk cookies, I really mean these are the BEST chocolate chunk cookies.

They’re soft, chewy, crisp and buttery. The best part is, they’re healthier for you and your kiddos because they are made with whole wheat flour and way less sugar — but you’d never know it.

I made this recipe ten times to get it perfect. Just ask my husband and kids — who, by the way, LOVED EVERY SINGLE BATCH. But, I’m sharing ONLY the very BEST batch with you, as voted by them.

You need to keep this recipe on your regular rotation, and I promise they won’t last long in your house. You can easily make a batch and freeze a batch for later.

MAKING THE COOKIES

These perfect chocolate chunk cookies are healthy and delicious, and made with less than ten ingredients which make them really easy to whip up for lunches, after school snacks or a party.

Make sure you keep your pantry stocked with Five Roses whole wheat flour, dark chocolate, brown sugar and maple syrup — which are ingredients that are delicious and make your baking a little healthier.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup butter (room temperature)

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup maple syrup

  • 1 egg (room temperature)

  • 2 tsp vanilla

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour (Five Roses)

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chunks (Lindt dark chocolate, chopped)

STEPS

  1. Take butter out 3-4 hours prior, or overnight, or put in microwave/double boiler to warm (but not melt) and take eggs out 1-2 hours prior

  2. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees, line baking sheet with parchment paper

  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the brown sugar and butter (about 2-3 minutes) using a hand or stand mixer

  4. Add in the maple syrup, egg and vanilla combining well

  5. Slowly add in the baking soda and flour

  6. Fold in the chopped chocolate chunks

  7. Using a two inch cookie scooper or a spoon, scoop 6 cookies on the each baking sheet (about two inches apart)

  8. Bake for 9-11 minutes or until slightly golden brown

  9. Take out of oven and cool on cooling rack

This recipe makes approximately 20-24 cookies. Store in an airtight container on the counter for 3 days and then freeze in ziplock bag.
