Chet's Story

A message for children everywhere

When Chet was just 1.5 years old, he pulled down a gravy boat of hot steaming sauce on his arm. We were treated at our local hospital, and told it was a second-degree burn.

But, after a month, it just wasn’t healing.

We took him to the burn unit at SickKids Hospital in Toronto. Immediately they told us it was a third-degree burn. We had been misdiagnosed, and they needed to operate.

Our hearts were broken. We started the process, desperate to make our baby better.

Dr. Fish, the head of the burn unit at SickKids, said that his mobility would be fine and emotionally he would be fine. But, there would be a scar. He then said, “you know what though, there’s nothing you can’t do with a scar.”

Those words - Nothing You Can’t Do - stuck with me.

I wrote this book for Chet. But, I also wrote it for children everywhere. I truly believe that all kids should grow up knowing that there’s nothing they can’t do, in this whole wide world, no matter what.

This book is so incredibly special to me. I really hope it becomes special for you and your little ones too.
